Meet Sandie
Hello! I am Sandie and I wanted to tell you a little bit about myself.
I am a fully qualified celebrant with a strong belief in the importance of ritual and ceremony to mark important occasions and relationship in our lives. I create tailored, meaningful ceremonies which reflect the people at the heart of them. I work throughout the UK and internationally and am happy to travel to conduct the ceremony you desire wherever that may be.
Originally from Ireland I now live in the Cotswolds, with my husband, adult son, and menagerie of animals, which include my little shadow spaniel, Stanley, our cat, 8 alpacas and 2 miniature Shetland ponies. I have even been known to include our alpacas in wedding and commitment ceremonies – fancy an alpaca ring bearer, we may be able to help!

It was not always thus! Prior to training as a celebrant I spent 30 years working in academia, teaching and research in universities. I am an anthropologist, and my field of interest is disability studies. The focus of my work has been on inclusion, challenging stigma and working for equality and social justice. These values have been the foundation of my life as well as my work and they are influential in my endeavours as a celebrant. I am committed to creating ceremonies that are just right for you, whoever you are, whatever your story. Love is love, is love. Whilst it might at first seem poles apart, for me celebrancy has been a natural step following my academic career. My research has always been focused on people and their stories. I have spent countless hours talking to people to understand their lives, what is important to them and how the world around them has shaped who they are. I have written and published extensively. People’s stories are powerful and important. As a celebrant, I am also a storyteller. I love to hear about the lives of two people who are in love, or to hear of the life of someone who is no longer with us and how they affected the lives of those left behind. To me, the connections we make in our lives, the way that we connect with others is what makes life special. How we celebrate and commemorate is crucial to our life story. These milestones offer a structure to our lives and help to scaffold our memories as we curate our own stories. I consider it a great privilege to be part of other’s rituals and stories as a celebrant. It’s the best job I ever had!
Inclusion plus
As the world has become less rigid, people are more able to be who they really are. I am proud to work with anyone and everyone! I have never understood exclusion and am a powerful advocate of an inclusive society which welcomes everyone. Same sex marriages, transition ceremonies, disability inclusive – everyone is part of my family of work. I am not interested in leaving anyone out!I am a disability inclusive celebrant. Throughout my career I have been used to working inclusively with disabled people. I am very happy to work with you to ensure that your ceremony is accessible and inclusive to your needs. I will listen with care to each individual to understand what your needs are and how I can make adaptations that put you at the heart of the plans. I am experienced in working with a signer for the deaf, I am used to working and writing in an accessible way for couples with learning disabilities, I am used to listening to the needs of autistic and neurodiverse people and to creating a ceremony that is responsive to the needs and desires of each person I work with.
